We are a part-dispensing Practice with surgeries in Copmanthorpe and Bishopthorpe. The Practice area is large, mainly rural and serves approximately 7400 patients. There are 4 female and 3 male Clinicians, working from both sites. We are a training practice affiliated to Hull & York Medical School. (see below for more information)

How to register

We have an open list and welcome requests for registration from patients living in or moving to the practice area.

You can register by completing a form at reception or simply printout and complete the following forms and HAND to our receptionists. You will need to provide a form of photo ID and proof of address

           NHS GMS1 form

           New patieint questionnaire adult

           New patient questionnaire child

We recommend that new patients undertake a health check with a Practice Nurse.

 

Updating your details

If you change name, address or telephone number, please let our receptionists know by calling or writing to us. If you move outside the practice area you may need to find a doctor in your new area. There are instructions on what to do when you move to a new area on the back of your NHS medical card.

 

Named GP

All Patients at time of registering will be allocated a named GP; you can find out who you’re registered with at any time by contacting the surgery or logging into the online services. You can still see any of the GPs in the practice. You can change your named GP by contacting a member of the reception staff.

Chaperones

Chaperones are available for clinical examinations. Please request a chaperone at reception or ask the Doctor or Nurse  before an examination takes place.

 

Complaints Policy

We take complaints very seriously. If you would like to make a complaint regarding the surgery or the services we offer, please contact the Practice Manager by telephone or, if you prefer, in writing. Every effort will be made to answer your concerns as soon as possible.

Violent or abusive behaviour

We have a zero tolerance policy towards behaviour considered to be violent, abusive or destructive. This includes behaviour directed towards any member of staff, any service user or the practice premises. We reserve the right to remove any patieint from the register in these circumstances.

 

Access to medical records

The practice is registered and complies with the Data Protection Act 1998. Any request for access to notes by a patient, patient’s representative or outside body will be dealt with in accordance with the Act. Please contact the Practice Manager for further information.

 

Patients rights and responsibilities

We aim to treat our patients courteously at all times and expect our patients to treat our staff in a similarly respectful way. It is your responsibility to keep your appointments, inform us of your past illnesses, medication, hospital admissions and any other relevant details.

Fees for non-NHS work

 

GP earnings 2021/22

All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (e.g. average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.

 

The average pay for GPs working in The Old School Medical Practice in the last financial year [2022/23] was £51,755 before tax and National Insurance. This is for 8 part time GPs who worked in the practice for more than six months.

Our last inspection (January 2016) rated us as GOOD overall.

This service was meeting all CQC national standards

Hull York Medical School (HYMS)

This practice provides training for 5th year medical students from Hull York Medical School. When making an appointment to see a doctor the receptionist may ask you if you would take part in a supervised consultation involving a medical student. A GP partner from this practice will join the consultation to review the discussion with you and the student and ensure appropriate care and treatment is provided. You may prefer not to, but your cooperation in training the Doctors of the future would be greatly appreciated.  http://www.hyms.ac.uk/
